Matthew 18:23-34 and the Bankers of Today
With that said,
Matthew 18:23 – 34 is an interesting parable in that it describes a servant who
was let off of his debts of 10,000 talents, but would not let his brother off of
his debts of 100 Denarii owed to him. Now 100 Denarii is equal to 100 days wages
which is roughly $15,000 dollars for someone in Western civilization. In the
same token, 10,000 talents of Gold is roughly equivalent to 60 million denarii
which is closer to $9 billion dollars. When you consider it, the large debtor is a typical bank and the small debtor is your typical bank borrower. Now take a look at what has just happened in recent months. The governments have let the banks off of all of their debt via huge bailout bills, and the banks have responded by persecuting their borrowers even more than before. They are foreclosing on houses and possessions that they have already been relieved of themselves so are in affect asking to get paid twice for the same debts! Well we know were these unscrupulous lenders and money changers will end up!
32 Then his master summoned him and said to him, 'Wicked slave, I canceled all
that debt for you, when you entreated me. |
